The authoritative sources our research relies on, how often we re-verify against them, and how to report an inaccuracy.
Authoritative Sources We Rely On
We anchor factual claims about Portuguese immigration and investment rules to primary sources rather than secondary commentary. The principal sources we use are:
- AIMA (Agência para a Integração, Migrações e Asilo), the Portuguese agency responsible for immigration and asylum matters, including the Golden Visa (ARI) programme.
- Diário da República, Portugal's official gazette, where laws, decree-laws and portarias are published.
- CMVM (Comissão do Mercado de Valores Mobiliários), the Portuguese securities market regulator, whose public register we check for fund status.
- Portugal's official immigration legislation, including Lei n.º 23/2007 and its amendments, available in full through Diário da República.
How We Use These Sources
Statements about minimum investment amounts, stay requirements, residency and citizenship timelines are checked against the current text of the relevant law as published in Diário da República. Fund eligibility and regulatory status are checked against the CMVM register. Procedural and processing information is checked against guidance published by AIMA.
Verification Cadence
We re-check pages that describe legal or regulatory facts at least once per quarter and whenever we become aware of a relevant change to legislation or to a fund's status. The date of the most recent check is shown as the page's "last reviewed" date.
'Last Reviewed' vs 'Last Legally Verified'
"Last reviewed" refers to the most recent editorial check of a page for accuracy, clarity and currency, as described in our Editorial Policy. "Last legally verified" refers specifically to confirmation by an independent Portuguese lawyer that the legal statements on a page reflect the law then in force, as described in our Legal Review Policy. A page may be reviewed editorially more often than it is legally verified.
